The One Fund – Boston

Recap: Thank you everyone – we were able to send $350 to One Fund Boston! I’d say that’s not bad for only starting this about 10 days beforehand. Next time I will start at an earlier date and hopefully we can get a business involved to match what we raise; or do some other style of fundraising based off of race results.

I finished the race, key word is finished, in just under 5 hours. Obviously a less than stellar performance (2nd half took me 3 hours!), but after going through that course and over those mountains I’m happy to say I crossed the finish line; the entire “run/hike” was nothing short of defeating. There will be some races in between, but I’m sure I’ll be back at Mt. Holyoke next year for Round 2. If you’d like to read a more detailed account of the race go here: http://bit.ly/15r0Jjl

Again, thank you very very much to my mile sponsors; the money will be well received by someone who was affected by the recent tragedy in Boston.
—————————————————————————————————————————-

In an effort to help those affected by the tragic events that occurred at the 2013 Boston Marathon, I am raising money for The One Fund – Boston.

Rather than just asking kindly for you to donate, I figured I could relate it to the 7 Sisters Trail Race I will be running at Mt. Holyoke on Sunday, May 5th. You can read more about the race at RunnersWorld or New England Outside, but basically it’s a 12 mile trail race along the Mt. Holyoke ridge, featuring 7 hills along the way (hence 7 sisters), 3,700+ ft of climbing, roots, rocks, mud…basically everything a runner would categorize as annoying.

So here’s how it works. I am looking for Mile Sponsors. As you’ll see below, each succeeding mile increases in the amount of the donation. If you wish to sponsor a specific mile, please note that on the donation page or leave a comment here (you can also team up with others to sponsor a specific mile). Upon donation, I will place your first name and any comment you’d like to add next to the mile you’ve sponsored, or if you’d like you can donate anonymously. (Example: Mile 3: Sponsored by Batman “Keep it up bro”).

I encourage you to donate whatever you can, $5 here and there definitely adds up; do not feel you must donate in any of the below increments. Donations not put towards specific miles will be put towards the lowest numbered mile available. (Example: If the first 3 people to donate give $5 each, I will put $15 towards the total which will cover Miles 1 and 2). 100% of the funds raised for this will be donated directly to The One Fund the week after the race. Proof of this action will be posted for everyone’s peace of mind.

Now here’s the best part. I am looking for a corporate sponsor who is willing to match the total amount donated 100% so we can double our funds to go towards this cause. However, they will only be asked to make this match if, and only if, I finish this race in under 3 hours 50 minutes. I have not trained anywhere near as much as I would have liked to for this race (definitely been eating too many Oreos), and I really have no idea how long this should take me, but with a lot of will and a desire to raise more money for those affected by this tragedy this is my goal. If anyone knows of any company or organization willing to be a part of this please let me know or send them in my direction – I am flexible and open to working with them.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Please share this with friends and family if you feel they’d like to participate.

Mile 1: $5 – Sponsored by Jon!
Mile 2: $10 – Sponsored by Sheryl!
Mile 3: $15 – Sponsored by Sheryl! “No more Oreos!”
Mile 4: $20 – Sponsored by Danielle!
Mile 5: $25 – Sponsored by Brenna! “In support of mile #5 & bringing great ideas to life”
Mile 6: $30 – Sponsored by Kerstin!
Mile 7: $40
Mile 8: $50 – Sponsored by Grandparents! “Good luck!”
Mile 9: $60
Mile 10: $70
Mile 11: $85 – Sponsored by John & Judi! “Wishing you and your calf muscles the best. :)
Mile 12: $100 – Sponsored by Jess! “For mile #12, because that’s when you’ll need the most support! ;) So proud of you for doing this!!”

Current Donation Total: $340

Awesome Bryan! I’m in awe that anyone could even complete that course. Sounds more like a crucible than a trail race. Don’t feel defeated, feel proud of your accomplishments ….both personal and for helping others!
